Delighted creators of Skegness’ biggest and best new visitor attraction, Altitude44, have scooped a second award for its construction.
The urban high ropes, the tallest of its kind in the UK, was named as ‘Construction Project of the Year under £5m’ at the Greater Lincolnshire and Property Awards 2020. The award came just four months after it scooped ‘Non-Residential Project of the Year’ at the fbe East Midlands Awards 2019.
Altitude44’s creators, the Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure & Culture, working in partnership with East Lindsey District Council, opened the venue just last summer and is thrilled with the reaction it has received so far.
“Altitude44 was a bold venture for us here at Magna Vitae and would certainly not have been achievable without the support of East Lindsey District Council. Seeing what was, a vision, just 18 months or so ago become such a successful reality has been great and we are looking forward to a fantastic 2020 season,” said Magna Vitae Chief Executive Mark Humphreys.
The attraction was nominated for this latest award by BSP Consulting and architects and sports business consultants LK2, which were both heavily involved in the project. Following the win, BSP’s business development director Jef Todd said: “Engineers at BSP Consulting are very proud to have worked on this unique scheme.
“Building on Skegness foreshore brought technical challenges in terms of its location and its proximity to the sea. It’s very much a sand-based area and practical, yet affordable, measures were needed to avoid sinking or leaning issues. We are thrilled that Altitude44 has been presented with a second award and would like to congratulate the whole team involved in this scheme,” added Jef.
Standing 21-metres tall, Altitude44 was the creation of KristallTurm, famed for its construction of such structures worldwide. Featuring four platforms there are 44 different ‘seaside-themed’ obstacles for people to negotiate as they reach the top – before an abseil down. The attraction also incorporates a children’s course.
Altitude44 is taking bookings now for the Easter holidays, when it will be open fully for the full two weeks, from Saturday April 4 until Sunday April 19. Thereafter it will open on all weekends, bank holidays and school holidays during the summer season. For more information go to www.altitude44.co.uk
